This past weekend we went on a new adventure here in Bermuda that we hadn’t done before (these opportunities don’t come along very often)! Jenn had heard that BIOS was having a day where you can go for a tour of their huge research boat, the Atlantic Explorer, plus they held many kids’ activities including a puppet show that Josh & Ryley seemed to enjoy.
In addition to the puppet show, we got to go on a very short boat tour, where the staff explained how they do testing of this and of that (it got a little technical, even for me!); the kid-friendly portion of the tour involved throwing in a fine-mesh net into the water (to catch micro-organisms) that was attached to a rope, and dragging it behind the boat. Josh volunteered to be helpful and he and a few other kids were able to help throw the net in the water, hold the rope as it dragged behind, and then haul it back in again. It was nice to do something a little different for once here on the island!
After our BIOS adventure in the morning, we met up with the McAllums at the Botanical Gardens later that afternoon – they had asked me to help them with a few photos for their Christmas card this year, so off we went. Fran was good and brought donuts for the kids, which were to serve as a bribe…! Of course, I took a few snaps of our own kids while we were there… here’s a couple (and I mean that literally)!
To round out the weekend’s activities, we thought we’d try out the ‘new’ ice cream shop near our place. I say ‘new’ as we haven’t been there before, but I guess it’s been there and operating for at least a year now.
Josh and Ryley both enjoyed their ice cream (and I had a fresh waffle cone, made right there – yum!), it was a good end to a busy weekend. It was surprisingly not expensive, we’ll definitely be making frequent ice cream stops this coming summer (my favorite food)!
