Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as ideal as we would have hoped – it rained for a few days before the party and continued on the morning of. Undeterred, we didn’t call a ‘rain out’ and made room in the house for our 35-40 guests!
Jenn of course had organized some games and crafts for the kids, including superhero mask-decorating and a scavenger hunt. Luckily the weather turned for the better about mid-way through the party and we were able to head outside, which worked out much better for the scavenger hunt.
For the scavenger hunt, Jenn had made up these little cards to read to the kids with clues as to where the next one was. The end of the hunt had the kids grabbing a little frozen superhero from a cooler and smashing them open on the sidewalk! The kids thought it was great, it was fun to see all the little superheroes running around the yard towards the next clue, capes all a-flutter!
I think one of the favorite activities for a good portion of the kids was the ‘superhero jump’, which was basically a hula hoop held out in front of an air mattress – I got a bunch of photos of the kids diving through the hoop and gracefully landing on the mattress beyond (or not-so-gracefully in some cases!).
The kids each got their own cake, they were in the shape of their super ’emblem’ that was on the back of their capes. Of course, the cakes were chocolate. And surprisingly, Josh had 2 pieces (he’s usually not huge on the cake)!
All in all a fun and successful party! We were so happy that everyone could join us and I must say that our kids were absolutely spoiled by our guests in terms of them bringing gifts… it was more like Christmas in October! All the gifts were well received when they opened them later on. Huge thanks to everyone for the gifts and for coming of course! See you next year…
