It’s pumpkin season here in Bermuda! I may be mistaken, but I don’t believe we had done a Jack-o-lantern… ever! We had a few e-mails from various parties and had seen signs up around our end of the island for pumpkin picking, so we figured this year we’d take the plunge and do it!
It was pretty fun – they had all the pumpkins still in place in the pumpkin patch, but they were already cut off the vine. You just had to wander around and find the one you like the best and pick it up!
The field was a little muddy when we got there, but not bad. About 10 minutes into our foray into the patch we got hit with a surprise rain shower! We retreated to the shelter of the trees on the perimeter of the field and waited the rain out – then proceeded to find our pumpkin in the slightly wetter and muddier conditions. Luckily we were all a bit grubby from one of Josh’s soccer games just before this, so no one was too fussed about a little mud!
In the end, and after much deliberation by Josh, we got one for each of the kids. The only problem was carrying both pumpkins back to the car (about a 10 minute walk), as of course both kids wanted to be carried part of the way as well!
We went for a short hay ride after we had picked our pumpkins, too.
All in all a successful trip – high fives all around!
