It is customary at most Bermuda schools to have at least one ‘sports day’ throughout the school year, and Building Blocks Academy is no exception! I had the day off of work anyway, so it was fun to go down and watch the kids compete in some fun and silly events at Bernard’s Park, which is across the street from the BBA. Jenn popped in at the beginning and the end to see the kids in action as well.
The weather was surely heating up, this being the first of June, parents were out in full force with their umbrellas for shade! The BBA thankfully was selling water and other refreshments so there was some reprieve from the heat of the day.
They set up a bunch of tents for the day’s athletes to help them beat the heat, Ryley wasn’t keen on wearing a hat but rather wanted to shade her eyes with her arm as she so often does…
Ryley was so good, she often seems to be very quiet and reserved and very attentive to her teachers, she was patiently waiting her turn to do each event… I think she was a little shy with all the people cheering around her, but she did great! She has such a cute little run.
Here’s Josh vs. Aidan (who is Josh’s ‘frienemy’ from school)…
Josh’s relay race consisted his team having to do a lap of whatever event they were on and return to him in line a put a piece of a silly costume on him – when all his team was done, he had to do his lap with this costume on – quite funny!
Lovin’ the shoes…
At the end of the day they had a parents’ race – there are some
competitive parents out there apparently – I was promptly left in the
dust in the men’s race. The only bad part of the day came when one of
the ladies in the women’s race ‘blew a hammie’ and went down hard, the
ambulance came and everything, poor lady.
As mentioned, it was a hot day – the events were originally scheduled to go from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, but by lunchtime the kids had pretty much had enough so they cut it short. I believe everyone had a great morning, though, it was fun to see the kids participate in their sports day!
