Well, it’s that time of year again – Josh and Ryley’s October birthdays have passed, and as in previous years they had a big joint birthday party to mark the occasion! This year’s theme was ‘Knights and Princesses’, and Jenn had all sorts of activities lined up to keep the kids busy!
Here are a few photos from the day – a much larger gallery is available here – there was lots to see and do, I was kept busy with the camera!
The boys were given Knights’ tunics (blue and red teams were decided upon before the party), and each Knight was given a wooden shield with their team’s emblem stenciled on for them to color. (Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Boys for the bulk of the work on this one!) The girls, on the other hand, created princess hats with all sorts of fun colors and decorations.
Jenn and I had created a castle out of large (appliance-size) cardboard boxes, which turned out pretty well… was a little rough around the edges but pretty good, if we do say so ourselves!
Boys being boys – they started play fighting with their wooden shields, so we got out the foam swords so they could have a relatively safe fight to the death!
The boys did some ‘jousting’ where they ran down the yard to poke a ring off a magnetic holder, which went down pretty well. The girls sat by and watched – then afterwards did a scavenger hunt. Bethany had to climb a tree to get one of the clues!
Cake time! As per usual – his-and-hers cakes, and some cupcakes too!
I made up some catapults (one for each team) that went over pretty well, too – we’d go back and add some more bungee-cords to it to make those bean bags go further once most of the smaller kids were out of the way (not that it was THAT dangerous…)!
All hail Queen Jenn – queen of the birthday party planners!
And for funzies, I put together a brief time-lapse video of us setting up for the party in the morning (sorry for the quality – I actually uploaded an HD-quality file and they compressed the you-know-what out of it!).
Thanks to all of course who attended and further thanks for all the gifts! I think we all had a great time, the kids had a super fun birthday party! See you next year…
