For a few months in the winter, there are kids’ bike races held most Saturday afternoons at the Botanical Gardens not far from our place.  Josh was keen on them last year and continues to be this year as well, especially with his bigger bike!

Ryley, always needing to do what her big brother is doing, wanted to
participate this year as well, so we brought her little pink balance bike down too.  She hadn’t been on it much and wasn’t a very advanced rider, at least to begin with… Have to give her credit, sometimes she sets her mind on figuring something out and she tries it until she gets it.

The first round of races we attended Ryley needed assistance to get around the course the first time, and then proceeded to make her way around all by herself in race #2 that first day.  Josh, on the other hand, did just fine, but after one race he decided to call it quits for some reason.  Funny guy sometimes.

The next few races saw Roo getting much better on her bike, she wanted some help from time to time but would generally just do it herself, trying to keep up with her speedy brother!

Roozle actually quite enjoyed the obstacle course that is always there…

In one of the last races, she was having a little duel with a little boy, you see her pulling into the lead and her looking over her shoulder at him (against my instructions to ‘watch where you’re going’)!

Josh, meanwhile would have fun between races zooming down a big hill and taking bumps, etc.  He is getting quite confident on his bike these days!

Having some fun running Mommy over!

Ryley’s really trying to ride with her feet off the ground (sort of essential for proper bike riding) – which she got a handle on after some post-race practicing!

Having fun going down a little steep hill…. and then a (pretend) crash which was quite amusing!

Now she likes to ride down our driveway for practice with Josh, zipping down and narrowly missing the car and coming to rest on the grass.  Why not.  No injuries so far, and she’s getting better!  Pretty soon she’ll be keeping up with her big brother (though not if he can help it!).
