Wow – can’t believe Josh is already six years old!  Friday (Oct. 4th) was the big day.  His silly mom thought it would be funny to start the day with some ‘graffiti’ Happy Birthday balloons on the bathroom mirror (with dry erase markers), much to his delight.  Then fresh waffles for breakfast and off to school with his lunch wrapped up like a present (another funny mom idea).

I picked him up from school right and we took a nice long scooter ride out to Dockyard for some Mini Golf before heading into town via the ferry to meet up with Mom & Ryley for sushi for dinner (his choice!).

(Ryley was all dressed up for Josh’s birthday!)

While at dinner we ran into some friends / Jenn’s coworkers, who just happened to have a gift for him as well (so nice)!  Then we zipped on home so that Josh could open his gift from us, a “new” iTouch, and then a quick Skype call with Nana & Papa to open a few more gifts (that they had left with us last time they were here).  That was about it – best to rest up for the big birthday party the next day!

This was the first year that we didn’t do a joint party with both the kids, we thought it was time to get a bunch of his new friends from school to come over for a Josh-only party!  Josh wanted a soccer-themed party so we rented the Warwick Academy field for a few hours (very reasonable rate!) so the boys could have a soccer game among other soccer-themed activities.

The kids were very helpful setting up!  It was a nice warm day so we borrowed a canopy (came in very handy!), then I took a few pictures of the cake that was meticulously crafted by Jenn just in case it got a little melt-y… luckily it survived until cake time when it was destroyed by an army of rugrats!  Josh and Ryley were very impressed with the cake, as you can see…

Turns out six-year old boys are very silly when they are all together, and then quickly do a 180 and are super competitive when playing soccer!  They were running around with their shirts off for a while before the game for some reason… then when the game started there was plenty of shirt-grabbing, elbows flying, body-checking, slide-tackling mayhem!  So much so that we had to actually stop play after about 10 minutes to calm them down a bit!  They all had fun playing once order was restored… ;0)

The boys took a break from playing to have some pizza and a drink in the shade… beside the big pile of presents (spoiled boy!).

Back on the field for a few more games, this time there were a few prizes at stake.  The ‘long ball’ (kicking the ball the furthest) was won by Rylan and the accuracy contest was won by Nate.  Each took home a new football (soccer ball).

Cake was had and a pinata was mangled after the games, the boys were good and chilled out again in the shade.  It was good to have the playground right there as well so that those who finished up early could go and entertain themselves while waiting for the others.  All in all it worked out pretty well.

I think Ryley was having fun getting some attention from the boys, for some reason she didn’t want her shirt on (I am officially worried now).

We actually went to some friends place for a Thanksgiving dinner afterwards – somehow our kids stayed up until the bitter end (about 10pm) when the promptly crashed in their car seats.

What a weekend!  Hope you had a great Birthday and birthday party, Josh!!
