Trick or treat, everybody!  Hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween!  It was another busy one around Melville Road this year, a few hundred trick-or-treaters have come and gone by the house and our kids are happily hopped up on sugar!

We put up a few decorations in the yard this year – have to make a bit of an effort for the legions of kids who come by on Halloween night!  The night before, Ryley helped me clean out the pumpkin for display and Jenn and Josh made up some scary spiders as well.  We put one in the ‘spiderweb’ we hung in the big tree in the front yard and we tied another on a string for the kids to drop on unsuspecting trick-or-treaters!

Josh was at a friend’s house for the day on Halloween (school was out for the week), he opted to go as Spider-Man for the day so I had a little muscle-bound superhero on the back of the bike this morning!

After work we had some of Jenn’s co-workers and their kids over for pizza before everyone went around the neighborhood begging for candy.  We had our friend Alex take over the candy distribution while Jenn and I walked the loop with everyone (thanks, Alex!).  She was very good, making the kids utter “trick or treat” no matter their age before giving them any candy…

As mentioned, there were tons of people in the neighborhood, cars parked pretty much all the way around the loop and kids everywhere!  Lots of smiles and fun all around.  I think the first TOTs came around at 5:15pm or so, with a few stragglers around 8:45pm.  We were happy to see the Cundliffe / Cooze crew early in the evening, they were sporting some great costumes!  (You can see Helen below as a NY marathon runner taking an evening off of training… ;0) )

Josh went as an Arsenal footballer, and Ryley was Tinkerbell this year.  (Josh often dresses in his Arsenal kit so it wasn’t much of a costume, but what can you do?!)

I had to put this one in – I thought it was very thoughtful – these two girls went around with a cardboard door and did a ‘reverse trick-or-treat’, coming to our porch and giving Ryley candy after she knocked and said the magic words…  Hilarious.  It was a bit confusing at first as we weren’t sure if we were supposed to give out candy to them or what, but it all worked out.  ;0)

Hope everyone had a great Halloween, I know we did!
