October is a pretty busy month here in the Wilson household – the culmination of the craziness this year, as most years, is Ryley’s birthday! Ryley had her 4th birthday on October 26th, a Saturday. She woke up to a similar sight as Josh did, a crazy display on the mirror in the bathroom, which tickled her fancy and got the day off to a good start!
Ryley is a bit of a smoothie nut, and as our Magic Bullet was on it’s last legs, we got her a new one with a bunch of new cups with handles and other fun lids and accessories. She loved it, and promptly helped Jenn make her favorite green smoothie for breakfast (Josh wanted one, too, which was unusual…)!
Then Jenn surprised her with a girls’ outing to the kids’ spa with friend Kailie and her mommy Kandis, which she clearly was super happy about (smiles all around)!
And finally, to top off the day we grabbed some more friends and went out for a nice sushi dinner (Ryley’s request) at the Harbourfront. I’m pretty sure I hadn’t seen a plate of sushi that big, ever. ;0) Ryley had a great day on her birthday, but her party was yet to come…
The following weekend (yesterday, November 2nd) we held Ryley’s birthday party here at the house. She wanted to have a Tinkerbell-themed party with some of her friends from school, so that’s what we did! We invited about 4 girls from school and another three non-school friends come over for some crafts and cake, fairy-style!
We opted to order a cake this year (limited prep time!), and it was a beautiful creation from Cake Boutique Celebration… chocolate, of course! (It was a fairly warm and humid day so I took a few photos of the cake before it really started to melt down… luckily it survived until after the party.)
Jenn had a few fun crafts sorted out for the girls to do, first the girls did some coloring while waiting for everyone to arrive, then moved on to making fairy wands out of sticks and some fun colored beads, ribbon, and pipe cleaners! They had lots of fun making their wands.
Jenn of course found a fancy fairy outfit to wear for the party… made kid-party appropriate by the addition of some tights! ;0)
Next, Jenn had got some terra-cotta pots for the kids to paint and decorate, then work some fairy magic…
Once the pots were all done, we filled them with some dirt and planted a seed in each of them. Then we had all the girls take their newly-made fairy wands and wave them over all the pots, imparting a little of their fairy magic…
We needed to replenish some of their fairy energy afterwards so out came the cake! Then they were sent off to play for a little while – maybe, just maybe, if they were patient, the magic might make these seeds grow!
At last, at the end of the party, we saw something happening in the plant pots… Ryley was first on the scene and was very surprised to see what was happening! The spell worked!!
What a great birthday party (nice job, fairy Jenn!), everyone had a great time and Ryley had the best 4th birthday ever!
