Jenn had been talking about us getting mountain bikes so that we could take the kids for bike rides around the island.  So not long ago, we took a trip downtown and took the plunge!  Jenn’s road bike simply would not do for riding on trails and Ryley needed a little more than a seat attached to one of ours (it would seem that Josh was really the only one who had a proper bike for the task!).  Now Jenn and I are proud owners of new mountain bikes and Ryley has a ‘tag-along’ bike that attaches to my bike so she can help me pedal.  ;0)

And of course, Jenn wanted a decent bike so that she could start doing mountain bike racing as they do here at certain times of the year.  Why not, right – I mean, who likes to have free time?  ;0)

We already had a bike rack on the back of our little car – now we are maxing it out.  The three mountain bikes fit on the rack, we just have to squeeze the tag along between the kids in the backseat to get everything in for a bike-riding adventure!

We started out just doing a few loops of our road in the evenings, Ryley really enjoyed the rides and was asking (whining?) for ‘another loop’.  Our first bigger ride was out to Clearwater Beach just past the airport in St. David’s, where there are a fair amount of trails and paths suitable for Josh.  Plus there is a huge parking lot for him to burn around in…!

The kids (and I!) thought it would be fun to put the GoPro on their helmets for some of these rides – the videos are a little shaky but entertaining anyway.  Will be sure to post some soon, they need a little editing.  😉

Clearwater was a success, our next bike adventure was out to Ferry Reach – the terrain was a bit more advanced.  They actually hold some of these mountain bike races that Jenn wants to do out there.  Josh got stuck a few times, but no matter, he still had fun. It was good practice for him, and we all had fun and enjoyed the fantastic scenery.

Family selfie!

We even found one of the geocaches that we had already found earlier this year – thanks to Dad’s good memory!  ;0)

Here’s looking forward to more off-roading adventures!
