Well, well, where did the summer go?  We were off island in Canada for a few weeks just prior to the start of school, so the first day of school really snuck up on us!

This first day of school was especially special for Ryley Roo, as it was her very first day of ‘big girl school’ at Warwick Academy.  She was fairly excited about going to her new school in the days / weeks / months leading up to the big day – then today she was understandably a little nervous and shy when Jenn and I dropped her off in her classroom.  It didn’t take her long to get herself involved in the activities (distractions?) that were set up by the teachers, however, and all in all it sounded like she had a great day.

Josh was of course an old hand at this school thing by now.  He was a good big brother and was helpful with Ryley in the morning, and once we got to the school we got a nonchalant ‘bye’ and off he went to his new Year Three classroom, which is just down the hall a few doors from Ryley’s classroom.

Due to Jenn and I’s work schedules, I pick up the kids in the car after work, so they go to the ‘Bears Club’ after school program, where they get to play around outside in the primary playground or in a classroom in the school.  Ryley was pretty tuckered out from her big day, understandably, and when I went to pick them up today she was sleeping on the shoulder of the supervisor.  I found out that beyond her being tired, she also apparently smacked her head on a horizontal bar while running under it after school and received a pretty nasty bump on her head as a result – poor Ryley!  She is ok, though, it was iced for a bit and she had bounced back enough by bedtime to pose for a silly picture.

So a big hooray for our big kids, and here’s hoping for a slightly less eventful second day tomorrow!
