It has become apparent that summer is just too darn hot to be riding bikes all around the island; come November the temperature is just about perfect for such an activity.  At least it seems that way.

A popular spot for practicing, especially if you’re just learning on a bigger bike like Ryley, is the big flat parking area out at Clearwater beach.  We have been out there a few times recently, and Ryley thought she would try out Josh’s old bike without training wheels!  She gave it a good effort, though was still a bit timid as you might expect.  She did manage to ride a bit on her own, but after a few pedal strokes she got a bit scared and would stop pedaling, so Jenn or I would have to ‘save’ her.

There was a kids’ bike race held on Front Street on the 16th of November (it was supposed to be around the time that hurricane Gonzalo hit so was postponed), Josh and Ryley were some of the few that came out.  It was a very simple course – straight down Front Street.  Josh’s race was, of course, a little longer.  A great morning weather-wise, it was surprising that there weren’t more participants (Josh’s race only had about 7 kids in it).  It was fun at any rate.

Ryley rode on Josh’s old bike again, but with the training wheels this time.  Zoom!

The kids apparently didn’t get enough riding during the race, so they convinced Jenn to take them to Bull’s Head (car parking lot) for some more laps.

Today was our first bike race in the annual Tokio Kids’ Bike series, we’ve done it for the past few years and everyone has a great time.  We missed the first one last week, but were raring to go today!

Don’t forget about the obstacle course!

Good times!  We’ll be working on getting Ryley riding without training wheels over the next little while… stay tuned!
