Little Miss Ryley Roo’s birthday 5th birthday was on the 26th of October, which was about two weeks ago.  (I waited to post until now as we were waiting for her party… more on that below).  Ryley was pretty excited, we ended up starting the day by opening a few gifts.  Eddie made his appearance in his birthday suit (the silly cupcake suit, not his actual birthday suit), and then we had a big breakfast as requested by the birthday girl!

Ryley loves to bake, so she helped Jenn bake her birthday cake (or did she just take it over?) – somehow the little chef ended up with chocolate frosting on her face…

Josh invited her to play a few video games with him in the afternoon, then to cap off her big day we went out for Sushi at Harbourfront.  Needless to say she was pretty tired at the end!

I don’t think we’ve ever had Ryley’s birthday party right on her birthday, and this year was no exception!  We originally planned it for the first weekend after her birthday, but lots of her friends were off-island due to it being the tail end of term break, so we re-scheduled it for today and pretty much everyone who was invited was able to come!  Ryley was so happy!

Jenn found the idea for Ryley’s ‘rainbow’ cake from this cake shop on the island (and also had them make it!) – it is six layers of cake (read: LOTS of cake) with super-sweet icing, each layer is a different color of the rainbow… see below for a picture of the inside!

Anyway, about twelve of Ryley’s friends from her class came over today for an ‘art party’.  Jenn had an art canvas for each of them (I made up some multi-person easels), which featured a pencil outline of a rainbow to fill in with color.  As the paint was doled out onto their palettes, the rainbows started coming together…

The girls all had fun with the painting, and Ryley had a blast – she enjoyed handing out the paint brushes at the beginning, visiting and laughing with her friends, and of course the creation of her beautiful rainbow painting!

Everybody say… “Rainbow!”

After the art project was done and the girls painted hands were clean (nearly a good hour’s worth of entertainment!), out came a few snacks (a rice krispie treat on a stick, with icing on the top to look like a paint brush).  Ryley was so cute – she went around to everyone to give them a ‘rice krispie cheers’ and a hug.

Then onto the pinata!!  That #5 was going down.  (I don’t know about you, but if I saw Ryley coming at me with a bat, I would run.)

Ryley had a second go at it without her blindfold, and all the kids were cheering “Ryley!  Ryley!” – it was awesome!

Finally, it broke and the kids descended on the candy like it was the last candy on earth.

Super strong Ryley!

One last thing – last but not least – we had to cut into that HUGE cake and sing happy birthday.  The cake was heavy and took longer to come out than we thought so Ryley got everyone to sing her happy birthday a second time (she was quite proud of herself for getting that going again)… pretty funny, that girl of ours.

There were a few times when ‘Bossy Roo’ started coming out but mostly I could see that she was SO happy to be surrounded by her friends!  There haven’t been many opportunities where she’s actually had friends over so she was really reveling in it today.  All the girls were very well behaved once the party got started and the whole thing was pretty enjoyable.

So, another successful birthday party!  Happy 5th Birthday, Ryley!  Until next year…
