Half-term break is coming up in a few weeks, and somehow our next game was scheduled for the first Saturday of the break, when about half the team would be missing! Fortunately, Coach Nic was able to re-schedule the game for a week earlier – today – so it was off to the Warwick Academy pitch bright and early for a game against the formidable BAA White team.
The last time we met, we came away on the wrong end of a 6-0 score, a tough loss for the team. We were, however, determined not to let that happen again.

Coach Nic’s son, Nate, set the tone early in the game, scoring literally seconds after the game started on a brilliant rush from center. Things were looking up – but their opponents soon turned the tables and scored a troubling three unanswered goals to take the lead 3-1.

Josh and his fellow Kodiaks would not concede, however – and battled hard to get back in the game.

I’ve talked about Josh working on carrying the ball more and making some plays, he had some brilliant ones today, working hard to take / keep the ball and get it up to his teammates.

Aggressive play by the BAA Whites resulted in a few free kicks within range for Freddy’s formidable kick – and that would cost them. Freddy would bring the Kodiaks within one, then after another goal by BAA he got another to keep them within one.
Late in the game, Josh made a great play to take the ball up the field and through a few green shirts to get the ball up towards the goal, where the ball made it’s way to Freddy and he put it away to tie the game at 4! With only a few nail-biting minutes left in the game, Tom came up big and scored to give the Kodiaks a 5-4 advantage, which they held onto for the victory!

Fantastic game, by all accounts – the Josh and the boys were all so happy, and not just because Coach Nic promised donuts at practice on Wednesday if they all came out and did their best…! No giving up, everyone played hard and played a part – well done, Kodiaks!
