Summer is here (officially it’s here tomorrow), and we spent the afternoon up at Clearwater beach for the kids’ annual Iron Kids triathlon! It was a hot day – nice day for the beach – plus Grandma Boys was here and wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
This was Josh’s second triathlon since joining the Tri-Hedz kids’ triathlon group (his first being the Tokio triathlon at the end of May), but this was the first one with a swim! The 7 to 10 year-olds had to do a 100m swim, a 2.5 mile bike (4km), and a half mile run (0.8 km).
Jenn was of course on hand to dispense plenty of advice from her triathlon experiences!
He opted to use his mountain bike for one more race…
Ryley Roo was there, too! Patiently waiting her turn to run the Tiny Tots race!
A high-five from his buddy, Cooper!
Josh did great, especially in that heat! He came in with an overall time of 25:40, good for 25th overall and 14th in his age group. Now time to chill on the beach with Grandma!
Ryley’s turn! Officially, her race (3-6 year-olds) was a 10m swim, a 250m bike, and a 50m run.
She was well psyched up for the race – she charged up the beach like a little maniac, zipped around the little bike course and kept up the pace during her run to the finish. I think Jenn had a hard time keeping up (and I don’t have a chance)!
Good job today, Iron Kids!
…and here are the athletes with Grandma, too!
See you next year!
