Oh man! Another birthday / birthday party! Josh has just turned 8 and he once again opted for a sleep-over birthday party. Luckily when the kids start getting older they are fairly easy to entertain, you just have to get them going on something!
We were a little concerned in the days leading up to the party that the hurricane coming up from the Bahamas was not going to hold off long enough for us to get the party in… luckily it did, however, only just!
We started them off with a little scavenger hunt around our quiet neighborhood – there were three packages of Nerf darts hidden around the area and they had to use a map to find them. They didn’t realize what the prizes were going to be, but once they found the first one they knew the rest.
Once we got back to the house, they all got little Nerf guns to use with the darts they had found and – after making them sit down for a minute for a photo – let them loose in the yard (not the entire neighborhood!) for a Nerf battle! They quickly organized teams and rules (like the many laser tag parties they had all attended recently) and off they went.
Once we thought they had lost enough darts around the yard, it was time to head inside for pizza – of course, they all played inside quietly (!) while waiting for us to get it all ready… (some were quieter than others!)
Jenn thought it would be a fun idea to have doughnuts for the kids instead of a cake (…or maybe she was cleverly trying to get out of making a cake…), a nice change of pace.
After a rousing rendition of the birthday song, it was time to move on to video games and finally a movie before settling in for the night.
The kids weren’t up too late, but late enough to afford a normal wake-up time in the morning. Bacon and waffles for breakfast before everyone went home, just in time for the hurricane to hit in the afternoon. Cutting it close, but we made it! (Whew.)
The lucky birthday boy was very happy with the gifts he received (huge thank you to everyone!!), it gave him something to do during the afternoon when we were stuck inside! Normally we would go out and do something fun – Josh’s choice – but alas, Mother Nature had other plans. Opening gifts / Lego / video games it is!
We were happy to have power for most of the day, so we were able to have a nice birthday supper and leftover birthday doughnuts for dessert!
Another fun and busy birthday come and gone… Happy 8th birthday, Josh!
