A few years ago on a trip to Florida, we had done a 5K run / walk called ‘Run or Dye‘ which was pretty fun – a good family adventure for sure. We wouldn’t have expected to be able to do one here in Bermuda, but as it happened a local running club called Swan’s Running Club managed to pull one together! Now I’m not quite sure how Jenn heard about it (I think she saw something about it on Facebook), but lo and behold the four of us managed to get signed up to participate!
And we’re off! While of course it would be hard to compete with our first color run (huge event, very well organized, thousands upon thousands of people…), this one was pretty decent. It unfortunately was a little windy so the ‘color stations’ on the course didn’t get overly saturated – we thought we were all a little ‘too clean’ by the time we all got to the finish line.
And yes, if you’re wondering – both Ryley and Josh managed to run / walk / jog / dance the whole distance – nearly 5K! Not entirely surprising for Josh but Ryley didn’t ask to be carried once, which was a first… nicely done, kids!
At the end of the race there was a BBQ / pizza and a bar, so most participants hung around for a while after the race. This is where everyone really got messy! There were bags and buckets of the colored powder around and everyone got their own pack (or two…) to toss around on the grassy open area where people were hanging out. Pretty messy (but easy to clean, don’t worry)!
We noted that while everyone was having fun, they were not disposing of their trash in a responsible manner! In comes the Ryley & Josh cleanup crew… running around and gathering up all the little packages to throw in the trash. Good job, guys!
Good times… will keep our eye out for it again next year!
