It’s Snowing!
Well, well – here we are, still enjoying our sunny and warm Christmases here in Bermuda! We tend to enjoy similar festive activities from year to year, this one was no different save for a few things.
There was one new activity available to us this year that hasn’t been in the past – ice skating! Ok, not ‘real’ ice skating, but pretty close, likely close as we’ll come to skating in Bermuda! The rink was basically a plastic-like material, put together like a big puzzle – you use regular skates on it (as awesome as they were) and while there was clearly a little more friction than is usual when skating, it was pretty fun – the kids had a ball! We ended up going twice in order to get our fill.
Beyond the skating, there was our annual trek all the way out to Southampton to pick out the Wilson family tree at Sousa’s, and Eddie (our Elf on the Shelf) was around to ensure the kids were behaving. There was the St. George’s walkabout, the Pantomime, the Christmas concert at school (Ryley starred as a Christmas tree this year). We made the usual trip to the beach on Christmas day, where we made our ‘snowman’ (and per usual we forgot to ask for cash when passers-by request to take a photo with it…). We were back to a familiar spot for dinner this year, though – we were happy to be invited to the Matthews’ for an awesome Christmas dinner and hung out until late, it was a great time!

Eddie’s Back!
We all did pretty well with gifts this year – Josh got his requested red remote-controlled truck while Ryley got some more clothes for her doll Alexis (and an outfit for herself to match). The ‘family’ also got a new Xbox, but that wasn’t all!
After a rousing scavenger hunt around the house, the kids discovered that we (Jenn) had arranged for a trip to New York! We had been on a similar trip in 2014, but figured that we’d do it again! This year we went a few days later than last time – rather than rush out on Boxing Day, we chilled out for a few days before leaving, then hung out in NYC through the New Year.
New York was a bit brisk as compared to Bermuda, and while the first day was cold and rainy all day, we generally had no trouble walking (or cabbing) around to various spots around Manhattan. Highlights included a boat tour which got us nice and close to the Statue of Liberty, attending a production of Wicked and also the Rockettes! Skating at Rockefeller Center under the big Christmas tree was on our list, too, and we had a few fun meals at Ninja and Benihana.

Now, you’d think that NYC + New Year’s eve = party… but no, my friends. 2 Million people in Times Square + us & 2 kids = party in the hotel room! We were all tuckered from our adventures so the kids were asleep when the ball dropped.
One thing that is unfortunately becoming the new normal is forgetting (neglecting?) to do our annual Christmas card! We are so happy to recieve cards and greetings from everyone and feel bad not to send one in return! Next year for sure… hope we don’t get taken off anyone’s list!
That all said – Happy New Year, hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. Check out the gallery below of photos from this season and this other gallery from our trip to NYC!
