Doing it with flair!

Ryley has been singing up a storm with her Year 3 Warwick Academy Choir!  We got our first taste of their fun performance style back just before Christmas at the annual Warwick Academy Christmas concert.  We were pleasantly surprised – fun & current songs plus choreographed movements make for a pretty cool show.

The choir performed in a competition in February – unfortunately Ryley wasn’t there as we were on holiday, but I heard they did pretty well even if they didn’t win any trophies.  We did, however, catch Ryley’s next public performance with the choir in April at the Ag Show.  They performed for a whole half hour, two days in a row!  Unfortunately there were some ‘technical difficulties’ during both days so the choir director, Mrs. Friesen, was savvy enough to get the kids to sing a bit without background music and keep the crowd entertained, a job well done by all!  I think the crowd favorites were We Got the Beat by the Go-Gos and Roar by Katy Perry.

Word must have been getting around that the kids ‘have the beat’!  They were asked to perform again at City Hall at the beginning of May for a small crowd and passers by at a gathering in support of Open Airways (an organization raising awareness about asthma and other breathing maladies).

Their biggest performance, however, was just today in front of a pretty decent sized crowd at the America’s Cup Village!  (In case you’ve been living under a rock, Bermuda is the host for this huge sailing event which is happening right now!)  Big stage, huge sound system, two huge screens – they hit the big time, performing a cute song about Bermuda (complete with accompanying student-made artwork on display by their classmates), then How Far I’ll Go from the movie Moana and finally Katy Perry’s Roar.

Mrs. Friesen holds a pretty high standard for the kids, they are always dressed the part and on point with their songs, kudos on a job well done by all!  Ryley has really enjoyed her time in the choir and hopes to continue with it next school year.  Let the singing and dancing continue!
