Ready to go

Visualizing the finish

Jenn may be away this weekend, but we went out to Clearwater for a little triathloning (is that a word?) anyway! Today was the Bank of Bermuda Foundation Triathlon, we also managed to get Papa – who is here for a visit – out of bed early to take in the action as well.

Despite the fantastic weather, there wasn’t a huge turnout for the kids races, which ended up working out well for Ryley! This was the longest triathlon she had competed in, distance-wise, so it was a bit of a test for her. Her swim went pretty well, she did a little walking in the shallow water but gave it a good effort to swim with her awesome pink kitty swim cap on! She powered (trudged?) through the bike, despite the long and hilly course, and after she finished that her brother encouraged her through the run (they raced at the same time, but he finished well ahead of her!), all the way to the end. Whew! She came across the line in 34:11.9, which was near the back overall in her age, but because she was on a mountain bike (a different category) she got the prize for being 1st (of 2) in her age / category!

Josh had a pretty good race himself, he was up with the older kids so I managed to catch him from time to time around the course while keeping an eye on Ryley. All three race legs were pretty decent for him, though I’m sure he’s been a little quicker on previous occasions (or maybe his competition is getting faster!)… he completed the race in 20:03.99, good for 9th of 13 in his age group. Nice job, dude.

Hats off to our little triathletes!
