Father-son wakeboarding team
Summer in Bermuda is hot. This weekend was Cup Match weekend (a four-day long weekend!) so there was plenty of time to figure out things to do to try to stay cool beyond sitting in front of an air conditioner. 🙂 We’d done Tucker’s Point hotel pool (a few times) this weekend already, so today we thought we’d see how much we remembered from our last time we went wakeboarding!
We’d heard good things from friends about Jenn’s fellow triathlete Kent Richardson, who runs a boat with the Bermuda Wakeboarding & Waterski Center. We were originally going to go on Thursday morning, but the weather didn’t cooperate so Kent managed to get us on board earlier today instead, which worked out great. The weather was ideal and the water was fairly calm out in the Little Sound near Somerset, so we were good to go.
Josh went first, and crushed it the first attempt! He got up right away and made a great run of it. Kent was good at offering him a few tips between runs, Josh really had it down by the end of the day. Ryley was a little gun-shy, but she was brave and did a few runs – the first she was so close to getting up, and the second time she got up for a short ride before taking a gentle spill… and that was her done for the day.
Josh and I did a few runs together at the same time which was pretty fun, too. I managed to have some good solo runs, impressing the kids with a few landed jumps off the wake (plus a few nice spills)! Jenn couldn’t be tempted to show me up today as she has a race coming up and was taking it easy after a workout this morning – so more time for us!
All in all a super fun morning – the kids especially enjoyed the part where they each got to drive the boat (Josh even navigated through the Somerset bridge and into the dock… with a little throttle assistance!) 😮
Thanks to Kent for taking us out!
