Happy birthday to you…

Happy 10th birthday to Josh! Where the time has gone, I surely don’t know – now we’re in double digits!

Of course we had a big birthday party with his friends to celebrate the milestone, this year we went to the beach and did a little surfing! We had chatted with Josh about party ideas and it seemed no one was totally sold on the now-default laser tag party idea. We had heard about this guy named ‘Cheese’ who was giving surf lessons at Horseshoe Bay these last few years, so Jenn suggested we check out the possibility of having a surfing party. The birthday boy was on board, so after a few emails / calls with Cheese (Ian) at Bermuda Adventure, we were good to go!

The weather at Horseshoe Bay last Saturday was perfect for the party, the waves were an ideal size for Josh and his 12 or so friends – only a few of whom had surfed before (Josh had only just tried it out the weekend prior). Jenn arranged to have surfboard-shaped doughnuts made in lieu of cake, we had pizza delivered to the beach, and ultimately everyone had a blast! There was a lot of smiling and hangin’ ten that sunny afternoon, not to mention a few sweet wipeouts! Thanks again to all Josh’s buddies for coming out and of course for the gifts!

Surfs up, dude

Today was his actual birthday, and while it was not exactly surfing at the beach, he had a great day (says he!). Today was his day to present his ‘My Heritage’ project at school, so after a birthday pancake breakfast and a few gifts, Jenn and I popped into his class to watch his presentation at school – at the end he got to share a tray of Nanaimo bars with his class, on account of them being mentioned in his project as a favorite family treat plus it was his birthday! I heard afterwards that his class sung him Happy Birthday as well. His buddy Jack joined us for a birthday dinner with Jack’s parents at la Trattoria, then it was home for cake and a few gifts from Nana and Papa before calling it a (birth)day. Whew!

Happy birthday, big guy – can’t wait to see what this next year brings! Maybe this year he’ll grow taller than mom…? 😉
