Surfer girl

Who says you can’t surf in Bermuda? It seems that for most of the many years that Jenn and I have been here, no one has really done much surfing that we’ve seen, other than maybe when there is a hurricane in the vicinity! In the last few years, however, we’ve heard more and more comments about kids heading down to Horseshoe Bay for a surf lesson. Seems it was one of those things you think, “we should do that,” but didn’t get around to actually doing.

Well we finally got around to trying it out, thanks to Bermuda Adventure, and it has been pretty fun! Josh had decided that for his birthday party this year he wanted to try surfing with his friends, so in preparation we went out the weekend before the party to try it out.

It was a pretty rough day on the water – maybe a little aggressive for our first time out – but we had fun and most of us were able to get up a few times! Josh was well prepared for his party the next weekend, and did great as the weather fully cooperated and gave us a nice calm sunny day with ideal surf conditions. He enjoyed it so much that he asked if we could come back on Sunday morning too, so the four of us did! Ryley hasn’t taken to it as much as Josh, but she was having fun on the beach and playing in the water (working up a little courage…) between her turns. She’ll get there, we have no doubt. She has the surfer girl outfits, after all.

I’m sure there will be more surfing adventures to come… stay tuned!
