Oh Christmas tree

We couldn’t wait to get back to Big White since our trip in February earlier this year, so instead of waiting a full year we bumped up our timeline and hit the slopes pre-Christmas! We had been saying for a few years that it would be nice to be there at Christmas time, thought we’d give it a go. (And in reality, we had the kids’ February school break earmarked for a big trip to Australia in 2018, and we didn’t want to give up our Big White time!)

The gang (G&G Boys, Wendy, Tim, Ruby, Andrew & Sarah) re-assembled just over a week before the 25th at Stonegate, we shuffled around who was staying in what room just to mix things up a bit. 😉 The day we arrived Jenn went into Kelowna to get some supplies for the week, and as it was Christmas we got a few decorations & strings of lights to spruce up the condo a bit. We had a very sad little tree with some (mostly burned out) lights on it in our place for years, so we gave it a festive makeover and used it as our Christmas tree! It worked out pretty well.

Being there at Christmas was pretty cool. We became friends with Santa (he and I talked hockey a few times, he’s a Connor McDavid fan as it turns out), he gave the kids candy canes on a few occasions and they went to visit him in his (very warm) hut in the village. There were lights all around, decorations in the main building in the Village, aunt Wendy & Jenn helped the girls make gingerbread houses, and a few bottles of holiday cheer were consumed…!

The Gang’s all here

Oh yeah, we did some skiing, too! The skiing was, of course, a blast – there was a fair amount of snow considering it was early in the season. Not quite as much snow as we were used to on the hill but plenty to have all the fun! Wasn’t too cold either – though a little cooler than we were used to! I am pretty sure we bought a few extra balaclavas and had some extra hand and foot warmers at the ready. Josh and Ryley were awesome once again, having fun shredding some gnar! We gave Josh the option to get on a snowboard this time, as promised, and while he thought about it he ultimately just went with the usual skis for maximum fun. I retreated back to the safety of the snowblades while Jenn did her best to pack in as many foot warmers into her ski boots as possible. Good times!

The fun was done just before Christmas day, however – we flew back on Christmas Eve day, which thankfully went without incident so we were snug in our beds for Santa to arrive at our place that night!

Merry Christmas, here’s looking forward to Big White 2019!
